Reducing your risk of stroke:

  • Eating a rich diet in whole grains, fruits and vegetables can help control blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.

  •
  • Don't smoke.

  •
  • If you are diabetic, keep your blood sugar levels in target range.

  •
  • If you are overweight or obese, a modest (5 percent - 15 percent) weight loss can result in lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, and improved cholesterol levels.

  •
  • Include moderate exercise in your daily routine.
